Roman LegendRoman Legend.
It is said that there was a distant time - back in the days of the Roman Empire - a Governor of the fortress of Almuñecar who had a beautiful daughter. And being his only descent he gave her all of his love. Two of the most handsome knights of the court were equally madly in love with the Governors beautiful daughter both aiming at the high honor of becoming son-in-law and therefore both requested the daughter’s hand in marriage. This was of great confusion to the father, having to choose between two equal noble men and so he set out to command an ordeal from each of the two men. One would have to prepare a ship fully loaded with eggs. The boat would part from the coast of Africa with the goods and had to arrive to the Costa Tropical without breaking a single egg. The other had to bring running water from his birthplace in the mountains and down to the fortress. Both the eggs and the water were to be used for the wedding. Both noblemen accepted the challenge and both complied with no errors what so ever. The eggs came intact from the African Coast by boat and the water came from the mountains in running streams. But the mayor could not decide which of the two noble men to choose from and the days passed. The growing uncertainty among the two noble men made them despair and their solution was to throw themselves into the sea from the height of the cross. And from that moment, after plunging to the sea the two noble men instantly froze and turned into rocks. The rock of the cross is now, today, a big rock plus two minor ones said to be the two noble men immortalized by the mighty power of love. |
