Prizes for Mingorance.

Francisco Mingorance has won the first prize in the 2010 Photojournalist competition and is recognized as one of the best nature photographers in the world now. He was also awarded second prize in the prestigious European GTD Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2010 in Germany

There is no doubt that we have here in Almuñécar one of the world's best photographers specializing in nature in its purest form. José Francisco Mingorance was born in Almuñécar in 1965 and has spent his professional life dedicated to nature photography, specialising in conducting complex case reports about Spanish fauna species that are endangered and largely unknown, as well as conservation projects of species such as the Giant Lizards in the Canaries, Andalucían Chameleons, and Balearic shearwater, to name just a few. His photography is celebrated, not just for its technical skills and expertise, but also for its amazing composition, use of light and exquisite sense originality.

Mingorance, who we usually see in his Chiringuito on the China Gorda beach, serving customers in his natural and friendly manner, has succeeded in putting the name of Almuñécar, in a position to be proud of amongst the best in International Photography. Mignorance’s achievements have cost him many hours of work, lost sleep, and distance from his family, but we can see how worthwhile it has all been when we see works like “Cien Latidos” (A Hundred Heartbeats) which represents a 100 of his best photographs selected from the 20,000 of his nature photographs from the past decade. It contains photography at its purest, fauna in action, aerial photography, macrography and the most amazing landscapes.

At the Casa de la Cultura in April, Francisco was honoured by the Mayor of Almuñécar Juan Carlos Benavides who said "we are proud to have in our city one of the world’s leading nature photographers”. He went on to praise his work saying "it is impressive to see his ability to capture the feelings and translate them into photography." Francisco also talked about his life as a photographer “I have never cared about the time and effort invested. I was born to be a photographer and I will die as a photographer. In this activity I find everything I need ... peace, harmony, beauty, excitement and love for all life ... I try to convey the miracle of the nature of which we are all party to on this planet".
