No More FREE parking in Almuñecar!409 new blue zone parking spaces in Velilla.
The new expansion makes the parking on Paseo Reina Sofia, Tesorillo and El Pozuelo all paid parking space. The local government of Almuñécar, Convergencia Andaluza with the support of the PP, has awarded the management of a new blue zone parking area to the company Estacionamientos y Servicios SA. According to spokesman Francisco Prados, CA and PP supported with their votes - rejected by PSOE, IU and PA- in the 'la Mesa de Contratación' of the 29th of September - the declaration of the entire parking area of Paseo Reina Sofia, Tesorillo and Pozuelo beach, which will now be limited to paid parking only. The mayor has given the service, which includes 409 car parks, to Estacionamientos y Servicios SA for a total of 7456.78 euros, according to information gathered by the PSOE. In addition, the Socialists have shown that the award of this new blue zone in Velilla 'has not been very regular because of the municipal technical report on the progress made by the same Contracting Committee. In addition, a municipal technician conducting this report "took only five minutes to deliver this and also did so verbally'. "We did not know how much time it took to see this technician and which considerations could have been made in such a short space of time, but this is how the Townhall works," lamented Prados. The socialist believes that 'the tax collection effort of Benavides' has found a 'suspicious support of the PP' and has ensured that the blue zone parking is going to be 'a new punishment' for the many visitors staying in hotels and also going to restaurants and bars in Velilla, already being harrazed by the seemingly never ending works of underground parking and cut of to the beach and waterfront. "We should ask the mayor if this is a new anti-crisis measure by the PP and CA to stimulate tourism in our area and on our beaches," remarked in obvious irony by Mr. Prados. Moreover, Mr. Prados has explained that the business is very lucrative to the concessionaire for the 409 spaces are taken out of an annual operating cost of 126,627,88 euros. Thus, if occupancy is 30% the recovery of this would be 162,419.46 euros, i.e. the company contracted would receive 37,791,28 euros. Mr. Prados also emphasizes that this new extension of the Blue Zone does not benefit the almuñqueros or visitors. "Profits will go to a private company and the problems and costs are left for the locals and visitors".
