Good News Monday! Determined as ever to start the week on a positive note, let’s start with some good news. Unemployment in Almuñécar has dropped again for the fourth month in a row! Since January, some 200 people are back in the job market! The new data were provided by the State Employment Service, the Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal (SPEE), who report that in May, 3,072 people registered at the unemployment offices. There was good news throughout Spain too – unemployment figures having dropped for two consecutive months, though in Granada province, only one month so far. Meanwhile, the Centre for Business Initiative in Almuñécar has announced Computer courses starting from 8th June. There will be four courses – using ‘Microsoft Word’; keyboard and typing; basic Internet skills; and CV writing. The courses, organised by the ‘Elena Blanco’ Women’s Centre and aimed at educating women in technology, will be at the Centro de Iniciativa Empresarial (CIE) in Almuñécar from 10.30 to 12.30 this coming Tuesday and Thursday with a total of 17 places available each. Another employment initiative in Almuñécar was demonstrated on Friday by 12 trainee chefs from the ‘Restaurante Escuela Horno de Cándida’, with an amazing two-course spread that was, according to the Mayor Juan Carlos Benavides, worthy of a gourmet 5-star establishment! The chef training course was set up by the Department of Employment and Training in collaboration with Almuñécar Town Hall specifically to help the unemployed in the area to acquire the knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes necessary to perform a job as a chef, a profession in high demand in a tourist town such as Almuñécar and the rest of the Costa Tropical.
